Welcome Back! It’s so good to have everyone together again, and a special welcome to you if you are new to our community!
Over the next few weeks we’re going to try and add some new content to our Living Word Prayer Resources – if you’d be up for being a part of this then head down to the Chaplaincy Hub on Wednesday’s to find out more!
This week we’re thinking about “Encounter” – which is one of Bishop Patrick’s Priorities. We are going to think about how we meet God in our every days lives and how people might meet God when they meet us too!
Day 1 – We start with scripture
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.
Take some time to read this passage from the book of Kings – It’s about when Elijah, a prophet, met God in an unexpected way.
A Reading from the book of Kings
And he said to Elijah, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.

An Encounter means an unexpected meeting. Often in scriptures people meet God in very unexpected ways – and that can be the same for us too.
Discussion Questions:
Can we ‘meet’ God in our every day lives? Where might we see God or, if we are not sure about God, experience something bigger than ourselves?
How do we know when we have an Encounter?

Day 2 – Encountering Christ
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.
Last week all of our new Year 7’s had the chance to come together for an Encounter in church. It was a chance to think about the firm foundation of love upon which our school is built. One of the challenges that we gave to them, and that we give to you, is to think about how people might encounter Christ when they meet you…
Have a think, and maybe a discussion, about what we can do for each other to help people encounter the very best of what our school community is about.
Don’t forget to come and say hello on a Wednesday or a Friday in the Chaplaincy Hub and get involved!
God our Father,
Help us to serve one another, and to help those around us encounter your love in thier lives.

Day 3 – What will people encounter when they meet you?
You will need a sheet of paper for today’s activities, it will be for a sign to go in your form room window so pick the size that works best for you!
If we understand that we might meet God in others, then it also means that people might meet God when they meet you.
Whenever we are living life to the full and being the best version of ourselves, we believe we are actually a reflection of Christ to the world – that’s amazing!
To help us think about how your form reflects God’s awesomeness, we’d like you to think about what makes your form so special.
Maybe it’s the gifts and talents you have, maybe you are good friends or good listeners – maybe you are the most fun or the most entertaining form in the school?
Spend a few moments thinking about the best things that people might encounter when they meet members of your form and add them to a special class sign that you can display in your form room window, by passing a sheet of paper around the room.
Put your form name in the middle then all the awesome things you can think of around the outside.
We’ll come round and get some pictures of the best ones next week!
Lord God,
Help us to be a reflection of you in the world. Help others to recognise the goodness of God at work in all of us and help us to inspire those around us by what we do.
