Scripture is the Word of God. It is a collection of sacred writings that tell the story of God’s love for humanity. As we read scripture, we learn about God’s plan for our lives, and we are inspired to live a life of faith. Scripture can also be a source of comfort and guidance in difficult times and it speaks to us throughout our lives. Jesus is the Word of God who became a human man. When we read the Word, we develop our relationship with Jesus.
Day 1 – Start with scripture

A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Luke
R. Glory to You O Lord
Then Jesus returned to Galilee, and the power of the Holy Spirit was with him. The news about him spread throughout all that territory. He taught in the synagogues and was praised by everyone.
Luke 4:14-21
Then Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath he went as usual to the synagogue. He stood up to read the Scriptures and was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written,
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed and announce that the time has come
when the Lord will save his people.”
Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. All the people in the synagogue had their eyes fixed on him, as he said to them, “This passage of scripture has come true today, as you heard it being read.”

Day 2 – Good News for all
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.
As Jesus begins his public ministry he has some shocking words for the Jewish people in the synagogue.
Lord Jesus,
You came to save us. Died to give us eternal life, and rose again to defeat death. Through you, the living word of God, grant us a desire to seek you in scripture and share the Good news with everyone we meet.

Day 3 – More words?
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.
Being talked at is no fun. We are always being told stuff. In school, on social media, friend groups, the collective noise can be deafening. The noise in our own heads can be the same. All the demands, wants, needs can make just finding a little peace almost impossible..almost.
Peace can be found in a single Word. JESUS.
That one word, that one name is both a prayer and a promise. A gentle voice and comforting peace.
Right now, if you feel comfortable, close your eyes. Breathe in slowly and out slowly (Repeat).
Now, in your own mind say “Jesus”. Just “Jesus”. Allow your focus to remain on that one word. Imagine writing that name on the screen of your mind. “Jesus”. (1 minute of stillness)
Now, allow your focus to open up. Take a deep breath and open your eyes.
God of peace,
The world demands our attention more and more. Please Lord, in your mercy, grant us peace in our hearts and stillness in our minds.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son. Amen
