Discipleship is all about learning from Jesus and following his example. It’s about putting our faith into action, living out the Gospel in our daily lives.
We can learn so much from Jesus’ teachings, his compassion, and his love
for others. As his disciples, we’re called to do the same, to be a light in the world and share his message of hope. In this year of the Jubilee, we are directly called to be a pilgrim of hope. That doesn’t mean we need to take on a grand mission or a huge task. We can do this in our normal lives. Here and now, by spreading the Hope that is Jesus.
Day 1 – Start with scripture
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to John
R. Glory to You O Lord
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Jn 2, 1-11
Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.
When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Almighty Father,
May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven. May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. To you our God, eternally blessed,

Day 2 – See a need.
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.
The wedding at Cana is more than a story about a party. Brant Pitre helps us understand.
O God of abundant mercy and love,
you always provide us with more than we ever imagined. Responding to the need brought to his attention by Mary, your Son Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana. Those overflowing jars are a symbol of your prodigal love for us.
Imperfect jars though we may be, make us unafraid to come before your Son with our fears and limitations.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Day 3 – Discipleship
We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.
Discipleship means doing something. Following Jesus doesn’t mean you need to tell everybody about God. It means practicing faith. Nobody’s got faith completely figured out. That why it’s called ‘practising the faith’. Would you be surprised to learn that following Jesus could be a simple as offering to help with making the evening meal or emptying the bin? Even if you don’t believe in Jesus, kindness is never a waste of time.
Faith is practiced in a 1000 tiny ways. Anything done out of kindness can be an act of faith and being the reason another person smiles today is discipleship.
Take a moment now to write down one thing you can do today to help another. Here are some examples:
- Thank someone for their help.
- Tell someone you forgive them.
- Offer to help.
- Pray for someone.
God of love,
source of mercy and compassion, weave your dream for the world into the fabric of our lives. Help us to reach out to those whom no one else will touch, to accept the unacceptable, and to embrace the enemy.
Surround us with your love, fill us with your grace, and strengthen us for your service.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son. Amen
