The Baptism of Jesus

Baptism is a sign of God’s love and forgiveness, it marks a fresh start and a new beginning. When we are baptised are welcomed into the Church community of believers who love us, support us and help us grow. During baptism we are anointed as priest, prophet and king and called to live like Jesus did.

Day 1 – Start with scripture

We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.

Read this Gospel passage.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Luke.
R. Glory to You O Lord

People’s hopes began to rise, and they began to wonder whether John perhaps might be the Messiah. So John said to all of them, “I baptize you with water, but someone is coming who is much greater than I am. I am not good enough even to untie his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.

Holy cleaning

Lord Jesus, it was your invitation and command that we be washed from original sin through holy baptism and be welcomed into the community of faith. Pour out your holy spirit on all peoples so that, with the community of faith, we may praise and worship you in all things.

Day 3 – All in it together.

We invite you to start with the Sign of the Cross.

We are never alone. Each and everyone of us is a member of a family. A home family; a school family; a faith family; by baptism we can become one with God’s family. If you’ve been baptised, that great. If you haven’t, that’s ok too, because you are all members of our school family. Look around the room. Each and every one of you are united in the family of SSPP. You don’t need to like everyone, in fact, many families have difficult relationships. Regardless of what’s happening at home, the family of SSPP stick together and have each other’s backs.

I invite you to stand up. Turn to the person next to you. Place your right hand on each other’s shoulder and tell them.

“We’re SSPP and I’ve got your back.”

Take a minute to move around the room and tell your other family members.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses. As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son. Amen

We had some different ideas, Baptism was to wash away original sin and prepare to receive the holy spirit. To show everyone how to behave as a good Christian.

Jesus needed to experience all human bits so he had to.
Anyone can be baptised because you can be religious anytime.
Some people might be at risk of being killed if they get baptised in some countries, but they might still do it anyway.

Jesus wanted to be baptised so he could show that he is the messiah to everybody. Jesus wanted to be baptised because there is nobody greater than jesus. He wanted to be baptised to seal his fate with god. He wanted to be baptised so he could demonstrate how to be close to god.

Anyone can be baptised but they have to make that decision for themselves.

Even though he is God’s son, he is still human and can still sin and feel pain. He wanted to be closer to God and cleansed of sin and receive God’s grace and bring our salvation. He wanted to show everyone that he was just like them and show them that one of them was saving them. Since Jesus was sent by God to be a good role model, he might have gotten baptised to encourage us to do the same.

Can anyone be baptised? You can be baptised if you are trying to get into the faith. Anyone can be baptised if they are willing to convert.

Jesus wanted to be baptised because that’s what he wanted to do, and he was born a Jew and wanted to remain loyal to God and he was baptised because he wanted to be closer to God and connected with God and heaven and he really believes in God, also Jesus wanted to be baptised because he wanted to show everyone he is the same as them.

Yes, anyone can be baptised if they want to give their life to God and want to repent of their sin or want to become a Christian and get close to God.

To me baptism is freeing us from original sin and becoming part of the catholic church.

At SSPP we are one family because everyone is there for each other.

This story tells us in onrder to get good things we need to do good things like helping others and being kind,spreading joy this can help clean the sins that we have made. Baptism is when you go to a church and get dunked under water and all your sins have been washed away so that we are ready for Jesus.

– Jesus was baptised. Baptism means to forgive sins.

Anyone can be Baptised, the church will accept anyone to be a part of their community. Closer to God. Jesus wanted to be Baptised to show how much he cared for us. People might be Baptised when they are older so they can choose to be a part of a religion. Start of peoples relationship with God, Sacrament of Initiation. Committing to being a Christian.
