To evangelise is to share the Gospel with others. In the Church, we are called to evangelise by being faithful disciples of Jesus and putting that faith into action. When we evangelise as Missionary Disciples we are helping others to know Jesus and building the Kingdom of God on
earth.

Day 1 – Start with scripture

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have a read of this scripture passage. Think about what Jesus is telling us to do.

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it?  It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth,  yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.  He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

Day 2

We begin by making the Sign of the Cross

It is difficult to pinpoint just one of the Catholic Social Teaching points that Evangelisation links with for this week.

Evangelization is not just about sharing words, but about living out the message of Christ through our actions in all aspects of society. Let’s watch the video below from CAFOD to remind ourselves of what CST is all about…

Imagine you just found a hidden pizza place with the most amazing slices! You wouldn’t just keep it to yourself, right? You’d tell your friends because you want them to enjoy it too.

Catholic evangelisation is kind of like that. It’s about sharing the good news of Jesus and his message of love and hope with others. But Catholic social teaching (CST) adds another layer to this idea.

Here’s how:

• Living the Message: Jesus taught us to love our neighbors. CST shows how this love translates into action. It’s about working for a fairer world where everyone has enough to eat, a safe place to live, and feels respected.
• Actions Speak Louder: Imagine telling your friend the pizza place is awesome, but it turns out it’s dirty and has rude staff. They wouldn’t be too interested, right? Similarly, if someone sees a Church that doesn’t care for the poor or fight for justice, the message of love might seem hollow. By working for a better world through CST, Catholics show the love Jesus preached is real.
• Witnessing: Helping others can be a powerful way to show God’s love. Imagine volunteering at a soup kitchen or advocating for the homeless. These actions can spark curiosity in others, opening them up to hearing more about the faith behind your good works.

Dear Lord,

Like a tiny mustard seed, filled with the potential for great growth, plant the message of your love within our hearts. Grant us the courage to share it with others, no matter how small it may seem.

Nurture our words and actions, so that they may blossom into kindness, compassion, and a desire for justice.

May your love, like a mighty tree, offer shelter and hope to all who seek it.

Day 3 -Hit the Headlines

Pope Francis has said that Catholic journalists and newspapers must adapt to the digital world with enthusiasm in order to evangelise (spread the Word of God).

Changing social habits and the emergence of new technologies meant that it vital for print and broadcast media to move with the times if they were to successfully preach the Gospel and protect human dignity, the Holy Father told Italian Catholic journalists.

The Pope told them to learn from the example of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who as a teenager, he said, “knew how to use the new communications technology to transmit the Gospel, to communicate values and beauty”. 

Blessed Carlo Acutis was an inspiring teenage boy who showed us all how we can become saints. Carlo loved technology and used it to spread the Good News by building a website to share his faith with others and evangelise… Watch the video below to learn more about him.

Blessed Carlo is likely to be declared a Saint in 2025.

Let us pray for the intercession of Blessed Carlo Acutis, that he will pray for us to learn from his example in spreading the Good News of God:

O God our Father,
we thank you for giving us Carlo,
a model of life for young people,
and a message of love for all.
You made him fall in love with your son Jesus,
making the Eucharist his “highway to heaven.”
You gave him Mary as a beloved mother,
and you made him, through the Rosary,
a cantor of her tenderness.
Receive his prayer for us.
Look above all upon the poor, whom he loved and assisted.
Grant me too, through his intercession, the grace
that I need (mention your intention).
And make our joy full, raising Carlo among
the saints of your Church,
so that his smile shines again for us
to the glory of your name. Amen.
